Nintendo

Everyone knows the word Nintendo, but does everyone remember Nintendo? Not DS or Wii, but the original Nintendo Entertainment System.

Nintendo was released in North America, Europe and Australia in 1985. It is heralded as the best-selling gaming console of its time. Nintendo set the standard for consoles in everything from game design to the controller layout which is still used today by many other gaming consoles. With games like Mario Bros., Zelda, Double Dragon and Paper Boy it revolutionized gaming.

Nintendo was at the forefront of gaming technology in the 1980’s, with games like Duck Hunt, that used an electronic gun to shoot ducks on the screen. The ducks appear one or two at a time and the player has to shoot them down for points. I even remember playing a game called Michael Jackson's Moonwalker, where you play as Michael Jackson himself, and he has to rescue kidnapped children to advance to the next stage.

  1. Wow, what a flashback. I remember saving up enough money with my brother to buy the original Nintendo. It came with the system, two controllers, Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt games and the gun to play Duck Hunt. I also remember when it overheated the screen would turn green & we'd have to blow on the game cartridges to get them to work again - good times!

  2. I still own the original Nintendo system and it still works. I work with the new gaming systems at my job and find it fascinating how far video gaming consoles have come. The new consoles are nice and I own them as well but nothing can match playing Mega Man 2 on the original Nintendo. The advancement in video gaming has pushed the envelope graphically and artistically. Video games are some of the most creative forms of art today. So much so that movies are based on them. It has also grown into one of the most financially stable industries in today’s economy. It was stated recently that the release of Call of Duty modern Warfare 2 sold more units in its first week then tickets to see Titanic in theaters during its entire run at the box office.

  3. I absolutely love Nintendo. The graphics were not as good as they are today, but they were also not as complicated either. There were fewer buttons and less moves to make. Compared to the newer systems, I do not even waste my time with them. I can't even control where to go let alone how to work the game. I want my old Nintendo back. It was definitely one of my best investments when I was younger.

  4. I love Nintendo back in the day. The graphics were not as good but it sure was fun. I do not think companies make games for the players like they once did. I feel like they make games to just make a quick profit. Overall brings back great memories.
